Will talking to a mortgage broker hurt my credit?

The short answer

No. Starting a conversation with me doesn't involve a credit check. A credit pull only happens later, with your permission, when you're ready to move toward pre-approval. There's no cost to talk, and no commitment.

When is a good time to reach out?

Earlier than most people think. Plenty of clients reach out eight or twelve months before they plan to buy, just to understand what's possible and what to work on.

What should I have ready?

Nothing. It helps to have a rough idea of your timeline and price range, but figuring that out is exactly what the conversation is for.

What happens next

  • I reply within one business day, usually sooner
  • We talk for about 20 minutes by phone or video
  • You decide what's next: a pre-approval, or a plan to check back later

The bottom line

Asking questions is free and doesn't affect your credit. Start whenever you're curious.
